Trailside Ecology

Aquatic Plant Edition

Join us at Central Park South Pond to learn about aquatic plants  from Assistant Stewardship Coordinator, Lucy Breda. We will learn how to identify native aquatic plant versus invasive ones. Learn why aquatic ecosystems are important habitat and how they provide ecosystem services to our community. Come connect, learn and conserve with us!

Trailside Ecology hikes occur throughout the year at a different park or preserve. These events are educational and meant to stir up our natural curiosity. We look closely at lichens, fungi and insects, identify flora, and listen for local wildlife. This group (Meridian Conservation Corps) not only hikes together, but stewards Meridian's naturals areas throughout the entire year. Check us out out at the information below!

Participants are encouraged to pre-register but walk-ins are welcome. To register, or for more information, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or call/text at 517.897.3610. All hikes are outdoors and may be canceled due to inclement weather. If you would like to join the Meridian Conservation Corps to receive email updates on future stewardship events and get MCC swag, visit the Meridian Conservation Corps webpage to sign up.
