The Meridian Township Fire Department will hold a push-in ceremony for two new fire engines. The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at 5:00 pm at Central Fire Station #91 (5000 Okemos Road, Okemos).
Push-in ceremonies date back to the era of horse-drawn fire wagons. After returning from a call, firefighters would unhitch their horses and push the wagon into the station’s bay. Over the years, the practice evolved into a symbolic tradition to commemorate the arrival of new engines.
