Welcome spring with a lovely hike at Ponderosa Preserve at 2 pm to 3:30 pm to soak in the lovely vernal pools that grace our preserves! We will walk to appreciate some of our smallest and most biodiverse wetland ecosystems! We will also look for some gorgeous critters like fairy shrimp, salamanders, and frogs! Due to the sensitivity of these ecosystems, this event is limited to 20 people. Muck or rubber boots are highly recommended. Let's kick those winter blues and start off the spring season with some joy!
RSVPs are always appreciate, but never mandatory. Please contact Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us, or 517.853.4614 for more questions and/or to RSVP. All Trailside Ecology events are outdoors and subject to cancellation due to local weather conditions.
Trailside Ecology hikes occur throughout the year at a different park or preserve. These events are educational and meant to stir up our natural curiosity. We look closely at lichens, identify flora, and listen for local wildlife. Come connect, learn and conserve with us out in nature! To learn more about these events and receive reminders, sign up for the Meridian Conservation Corps on our MCC Webpage here. This group not only hikes together, but stewards Meridian's naturals areas throughout the entire year. Check us out!
