Stewardship Saturday

Invasive Shrub Removal

Join us to remove invasive shrubs in a lovely little wetland area called Sumbal Preserve! We will meet at Ferguson Park parking lot and enter the preserve from there. We will work to remove invasive honeysuckle and privet shrubs from areas with native wetland plants, to give them more room to regenerate. Volunteers will have to walk over uneven terrain and possibly over downed logs. No experience is necessary, and all tools are provided. Expect to use hand saws, loppers, and pruners to cut shrubs and vines. Join us in the forest to connect, learn, and conserve!

Stewardship Saturdays occur every other Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at a different location. Help the Meridian Conservation Corps restore habitat across our parks and preserves through activities like invasive plant removal and sowing native seeds. Stewardship workdays are a great way to get outdoors and improve our community!

Participants are encouraged to pre-register but walk-ins are welcome. To register, or for more information, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or call at 517.853.4614. All workdays are outdoors and may be canceled due to inclement weather. If you would like to join the Meridian Conservation Corps to receive email updates on future stewardship events and get MCC swag, visit the Meridian Conservation Corps webpage to sign up.
