Fall is a great time to plant Native Plants! The Harris Nature Center (HNC – 3998 Van Atta Road, Okemos) will be hosting a Fall Native Plant Sale on Saturday, October 4th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Native Plant Sale includes Michigan native sedges, grasses, wildflowers and ferns. All proceeds benefit HNC. The native plants are grown locally at Designs by Nature in Laingsburg and Michigan Woodland Wildflowers & Ferns in Haslett.
Community members can order plants ahead of time or shop on the day of the sale. Pre-orders are due on Thursday, September 24 and will be available for pick up on the day of the sale. For those who do not pre-order, there will be additional plant varieties available to purchase on October 4.

Residents are encouraged to plant native plants in their yards to help protect wetlands in Meridian Township. Putting native plants back into the buffer or vegetation strip helps to maintain ponds, streams and wetlands in their natural state by filtering out pollutants, providing habitats for wildlife and securing stream banks against erosion.
